Job Summary

Assess and provide intervention to ensure student success and promote an exemplary educational program which fosters achievement for all students. Develops and promotes good relations among community and school clientele.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • 1. Ability to assess and provide intervention services to students who exhibit communication disorders which negatively impact their achievement as well as social functioning behavior (including articulation, receptive/expressive language, auditory processing, fluency, voice, written language and literacy), and monitor progress toward Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. (Daily – 50%)
  • 2. Familiarity of diagnostic assessment practices to differentiate between language difference versus language disorder for Multilingual Learners. (Yearly – 10%)
  • 3. Strong knowledge of content area, teaching methods, learning styles and educational research related to special education students of all levels and abilities. (Yearly – 10%)
  • 4. Strong classroom management, communication, organization and planning skills. (Daily – 5%)
  • 5. Demonstrate problem-solving and collaboration skills with students, teachers, staff, special education teams, parents and administrators. (Daily – 5%)
  • 6. Willing to support and actively participate in a professional learning community to positively impact achievement and differentiate instruction based on the needs of students. (Weekly – 5%)
  • 7. Demonstrate an ability to provide differentiated intervention (e.g. small group, individual services, co-teaching, push-in, trans-disciplinary models, etc.) to students with a range of communication needs (e.g. service cognitive delays, Autism Spectrum Disorders, learning disabilities, serious emotional disabilities, speech language eligible students, and other related speech/language needs). (Daily – 5%)
  • 8. Knowledge of phonemic awareness and literacy interventions (i.e.; multi-sensory reading, reading comprehension, etc). (Daily – 5%)
  • 9. Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (Daily – 5%)

    This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
    • Master's degree
    • Student teaching/practicum/internship experience that meets or exceeds Colorado's requirements
    • Hold a valid Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License
    • Endorsements/Licenses:
      Speech/Language Pathologist
    • Hold an active National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid program) account and provide NPI and Health First Colorado account information to the Office of Human Resources and the District
    • Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Basic organizational skills
    • Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
    • Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
    • Ability to assume leadership in the development and communication of programs and curriculum
    • Ability and desire to work as a team member
    • Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups
    • Ability to serve as a role model and an innovative and creative learner with an insatiable thirst for knowledge that stays on the cutting edge of instructional practice and pedagogy
    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
    • Light work strength level (lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds)
    • Primarily works indoors
