Summary

Under the general supervision of the Visual Arts Coordinator, the employee will coordinate and oversee duties for the Art Heritage Program. The position serves as the primary point of contact for program activities and lesson plans and collaborates with staff, community members, students, and parent volunteers to facilitate these interactions.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the Artist in Residence and Art Heritage Program’s supplies and resources for each Elementary School, overseeing the program’s inventory, monitoring supply levels, tracking donated supplies, and maximizing utilization.
  • Research and design a minimum of three art project lessons inspired by diverse artists, ensuring alignment with State Visual Arts Standards, appropriateness for K‑5 students, and fiscal feasibility.
  • Develop lesson supply lists for each unit, assemble and organize art lesson boxes for pickup, and work with Volunteer Art Instructors to acquire, use, and return supplies.
  • Coordinate and instruct classroom volunteers to teach the art projects, co‑facilitate monthly Train the Trainer workshops, and support monthly Professional Learning Community meetings.
  • Assist with soliciting and managing art supply donations, contacting community members, businesses, and organizations that support the program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Education and Experience
    • High school diploma required with at least one year of classroom volunteer or aide experience preferred.
    • Preference for experience or coursework in art history, drawing, printing, color theory, watercolor painting, and ceramics; experience as a working artist is desirable.
    • Acceptable educational or experiential equivalents may be considered at the District’s sole discretion.
    Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
    • Criminal background check required for hire.
    • Attendance and successful completion of all mandated staff development training.
    Technical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
    • Exceptional oral communication and phone etiquette in English.
    • Spanish oral communication skills desirable.
    • Exceptional customer service, public relations, and interpersonal relationship building skills.
    • Proficient knowledge of State Visual Arts Standards.
    • Basic professional written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and time‑management skills handling multiple priorities.
    • Basic knowledge of children’s developmental abilities for art skills.
    • Knowledge of art elements and design concepts.
    • Ability to adapt lessons for students with visual, physical, or other challenges.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality related to student issues.
