What you will do

The Department of Architecture in the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Colorado Denver is seeking a pool of Lecturers. Lecturers selected from this pool will teach six‑credit‑hour design studios in the undergraduate or graduate programs. Teaching may be in‑person, hybrid, online, or remote. Lecturers who are hired to teach design studios are expected to have expertise and experience in architectural design, including knowledge of different design paradigms, design skills, and approaches to project design.

They must be able to develop and manage student projects, provide constructive criticism, and utilize technologies ranging from technical drafting to advanced digital design tools and visualization software. If an applicant has an area of expertise other than or in addition to a design studio and wants to be considered for a three‑credit‑hour course, they should highlight this interest in a cover letter.

Qualifications

You Already Possess (Minimum Qualifications)
  • A bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a professional degree in architecture or a terminal degree in a related field.
  • Additional preference will be given to applicants with prior teaching experience, and/or professional registration, and/or a record of professional practice in architecture.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across various modalities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills that support building positive, respectful relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff in a collegial academic environment.
  • Ability to develop a clear syllabus outlining learning outcomes, policies, and assessments for the class.
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to different course formats (in‑person, online, hybrid) and student needs.

Conditions of Employment
  • The position may involve in‑person or hybrid work depending on the specific course(s) being taught. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.
Mental, Physical, And/or Environmental Requirements
  • This position may be performed on site, and will require the ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work; often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.
  • This position may be performed in a hybrid or remote environment, requiring the ability to work effectively in a remote setting. This includes maintaining a dedicated workspace free of excessive noise or distractions, reliable internet connectivity, and the ability to participate in virtual meetings for extended periods. Employees must be able to independently manage time, remain stationary for prolonged computer‑based work, and transport necessary equipment (such as a laptop and peripherals) between their remote work location and the office as needed.
