About This Job

The Itinerant Gifted and Talented Teacher identifies ECE-12th grade students in need of gifted and talented services according to state and district guidelines. Develops and implements appropriate and meaningful gifted education services in the school community that provide academic and affective (social/emotional) support for gifted students.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and monitor Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs) to provide academic and affective support for identified gifted students.
  • Consult with classroom teachers and provide gifted education-related staff development targeted around school needs based on student, family and staff feedback.
  • Provide staff development on strategies and appropriate materials to differentiate the curriculum and challenge gifted learners.
  • Participate and support in the school's Multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) process as it relates to the support of gifted and advanced students.
  • Counsel students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitor, supervise, and enforce rules of conduct and behavior of assigned students; reinforce positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observe, evaluate, report, and record student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and prepare student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators.
  • Establish and communicate to students clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects; provide advanced instruction to students individually and in groups (caseload and FTE permitting), using various teaching methods and technology and adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
  • Prepare, administer, and provide reports to families and teachers regarding student performance on whole grade universal screening assessments and individual assessments related to gifted identification; communicate with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavioral and academic problems and coordinate instructional efforts, especially in regard to twice-exceptional students.
  • Follow Exceptional Children's Education Act (ECEA) rules and district guidance for identification of gifted and talented students and maintain accurate records of students in need of service.
What You’ll Need
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field. A Master’s Degree is required for Concurrent Enrollment positions.
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. (Link to requirements.)
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.
