Communication Studies Affiliate Instructor

Position Summary

The Department of Communication Studies at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for part‑time affiliate faculty teaching positions. Faculty in the department cultivate student skill in understanding, evaluating, and producing communication. Affiliate instructors work on a contracted basis dependent on department needs and may teach in one or more of the following emphasis areas:
Public Speaking, Communication Theory, Organizational Communication, Gender and Communication, Culture and Communication, Rhetoric, and Interpersonal Communication.

Affiliate faculty members will teach assigned classes in person or online, deliver course content, prepare course materials and lesson plans, grade student work, provide robust feedback in a timely manner, address student questions in line with university and departmental policies, and provide academic support as needed. Faculty must deliver instruction consistent with the regular course syllabus and departmental policies, comply with student evaluation of instruction policies, participate in peer observation if required, and adapt to new modes of instruction.

Sensitivity to the educational needs of a diverse student population is essential.

Master’s degree in Communication Studies or a relevant discipline.

• Doctorate in Communication Studies or a relevant discipline.
• Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population, including students of color, LGBTQIA students, students from low‑income backgrounds, first‑generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non‑traditional students, student veterans, and English language learners.

Affiliate faculty are part‑time, at‑will employees hired to teach on a per‑credit‑hour basis for specific classes, usually on a semester‑by‑semester basis. They are not eligible for benefit coverage under the university’s benefit program, and teaching assignments are contingent on budget and enrollment. Qualified candidates are expected to teach in person/on campus upon hire.

The final salary is based on the number of credit hours assigned at a rate determined by university policy. The rate of pay per credit hour assignment can be between $1,233 and $1,512.
