Position: Spur Campus AmeriCorps Reduced Half-Time Member *Term-Limited*

Ameri Corps Member Position

The Ameri Corps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. Their primary focus will be to support and deliver high-impact educational programming to K-12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will play a key role in facilitating Hands-on History programs, field trips, and other student focused educational experiences.

As capacity allows, the Ameri Corps member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives.

Terms of Service

  • The member will serve at the National Western Center as a representative of History Colorado's Hands-On History Expansion Program.
  • The Ameri Corps member will serve for an average of 5-10 hours per week during the service term, for a minimum of 675 hours over the course of their service term.
  • The Ameri Corps member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator, with additional oversight and support provided by the Program Manager.
  • Service term begins September 8, 2026 and ends August 20, 2027.
  • Mandatory Orientation on September 8 and 9, 2026 at the History Colorado Museum in Denver.
  • Additional Availability required for Out of School Programming:
    • March 29th
      - April 2nd, 2027 (40 hours)
    • Summer Camps, June
      - August 2027 (40 hours per week)
    • There will be a 1 week holiday scheduled around the July 4th holiday, TBD.

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and write hands-on curriculum lessons for out of school programming
  • Facilitate Hands-On History programming as well as other educational activities, tailoring content to be culturally relevant and aligned with academic standards.
  • Collaborate with Hands-On History staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact.
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of Hands-On History.
  • Build community partnerships, visit potential partner locations, and provide information and feedback to the Hands-On History team.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of educational programming.
  • Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiative projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
  • Ability to pass criminal history checks.
  • Strong interest in history, education, or a related field.
  • At least three (3) months of full-time or equivalent part-time experience working with school-age children ages 5-18 (455 hours).
