The Community College of Denver seeks adjunct psychology faculty to teach college-level psychology courses within the Behavioral Sciences department. This position is ideal for an educator who is committed to equity, student success, and inclusive teaching, with knowledge of culturally responsive practices for engaging students who have been historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional psychology classrooms. The adjunct reports to the Chair of Behavioral Sciences and works as a collaborative, essential member of the Psychology Department.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Teach college-level psychology courses using both traditional and innovative methods of instruction, including the use of technology.
- Engage and motivate students while teaching a curriculum grounded in the core values of critical thinking, respect, competence, professional development, and ethical responsibility.
- Apply culturally responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, and Native American students.
- Demonstrate a commitment to equity and student success that extends beyond the classroom.
- Collaborate with the Chair and other Behavioral Science faculty as an essential member of the Psychology Department.
- Assist with developing and modifying curriculum and contribute to departmental initiatives and responsibilities.
- Support efforts to maintain coherence across CCD's many instructional venues (for example, online, community campuses, and Pre-Collegiate programs).
- Participate in textbook selection and professional development.
- Strong teaching skills, with the ability to engage and motivate a diverse student body.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive teaching practices.
- Effective interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a department and across instructional venues.
- Familiarity with student Learning Management Systems (D2L), instructional technology, and Microsoft Office programs.
- Commitment to equity, student success, and ongoing professional development.
- Master's Degree in Psychology, or a Master's Degree in a closely related field plus 18 graduate credit hours in psychology.
- Some college-level teaching experience preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
- Doctorate in Psychology.
- Three or more years of teaching experience.
- Strong background teaching psychology.
- Prior community college teaching experience.
- Experience teaching in multicultural settings and/or with underrepresented or underserved students.
- Curriculum development, program assessment, and/or program development experience.
- Applied professional and/or research experience.
- Multilingual ability (appreciated but not required).
- Collaborative teaching experience.
- Advising experience.
- Clinical background.
