Writing​/Composition Affiliate Instructor

Position Summary

The Department of English at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for part‑time affiliate faculty instructors of English (First Year Writing).

• Teach 1 to 9 credit hours per semester in First Year Writing.
• Teach day, evening, weekend, or off‑campus classes as needed.
• Deliver classes face‑to‑face or online in a flexible format.
• Adopt teaching methods that support a diverse, urban student population.
• Prepare course materials, lesson plans, and grading rubrics.
• Provide timely, robust feedback and academic support to students.
• Advise students and address questions consistent with university, college, and department policies.
• Participate in student evaluation of instruction and peer observation policies.

• Master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, or English.
• At least one year of experience teaching college‑level composition.

• Doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition.
• Evidence of coursework and/or research expertise in rhetoric and composition.
• Two years’ experience teaching college‑level composition.

• Affiliate faculty are part‑time, at‑will employees hired to teach on a per‑credit‑hour basis on a semester‑by‑semester basis.
• All teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment.
• Qualified candidates are expected to teach in person/on campus upon hire.
• Affiliate faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program.

Pay per credit hour assignment ranges from $1264 to $1482, per university policy.
