Experienced College Counselor (Part Time, mid-Jan–June 5, 2026) Overview
Denver Jewish Day School seeks an experienced, proactive, and knowledgeable College Counselor to provide coverage during a maternity leave from mid-January to early June 2026. This role will focus primarily on supporting second-semester juniors as they prepare for the college application process and will include limited support for seniors completing final college tasks. The role also includes administration/coordination of AP exams in May.
TimeCommitment
Part-time, 0.5 FTE, 20 hours/week (flexible, some weeks more full-time, some less), (mid-January to early June 2026), with some flexibility in scheduling.
Responsibilities- Provide individualized college counseling meetings with 11th-grade students and families, focusing on:
- Building balanced and personalized college lists (specifically, schools with large Jewish populations)
- Drafting and refining the Common App essay and other application components
- Exploring financial aid and scholarship opportunities
- Lead or co-teach a weekly College Counseling class in collaboration with the English Department on Wednesday
- Facilitate 2–4 workshops for high school juniors (20–40 minutes each) on topics such as list building, essay writing, and the Common App
- Respond to parent and student inquiries in a timely, professional manner
- Support seniors with any last-minute application or enrollment needs
- Maintain accurate student notes and documentation in Scoir
- AP Coordinator:
- Manage registration, payment, and communication for 12–15 AP exams
- Coordinate testing rooms, proctors, technology, and materials
- Communicate regularly with teachers, students, and families regarding schedules and logistics
- Minimum of five years of experience as a high school or independent college counselor
- Demonstrated expertise in the college admissions process, including list development, essay coaching, and financial aid guidance
- Familiarity with Jewish day school settings or Jewish student populations preferred
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, families, and administrators
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Salaried part-time role (mid-Jan-mid-June 2026)
- Flexibility, mostly in person/on campus at least twice a week
- Reports to the Upper Division Principal
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: $24.03 - $28.94 per hour
