Responsibilities
  • Lead and support teens participating in Youth in Government (YIG)—debates, leadership development, and civic engagement.

  • Mentor youth as they build confidence, leadership skills, and lifelong friendships.
  • Help plan and execute meetings, events, and trips, including YIG conferences.
  • Partner with staff and volunteers to bring the YIG experience to life.
  • Coordinate and deliver high-quality teen programming, support youth in developing leadership, public speaking, civic engagement, and teamwork skills.
  • Facilitate teen-led initiatives and encourage youth voice, choice, and leadership in program design and execution.
  • Ensure programming aligns with YMCA youth development principles and promotes a safe, inclusive environment.
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with teen participants, fostering belonging and connection.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and behavioral support as needed.
  • Monitor participation, engagement, and retention; implement strategies to enhance the teen experience.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, risk management practices, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate program records, attendance, and required documentation.
  • Support supervision of participants during meetings, events, and off-site activities.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies in accordance with YMCA protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with families, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support teen program growth and alignment with broader YMCA initiatives.
  • Represent the YMCA positively in community and school-based settings.
  • Provide guidance and support to part-time staff and/or volunteers assisting with teen programs.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of program support staff or volunteers.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate teens from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred
  • Experience with Youth in Government or similar civic/leadership programs.
