Position: DF SUM AY25/26 GLOBAL Inclusive Orientation Peer Mentor

DF SUM AY25/26 GLOBAL Inclusive Orientation Peer Mentor

Orientation Peer Mentors in the GLOBAL Inclusive College Certificate Program support students with intellectual disabilities as they transition to college during the GLOBAL Inclusive Readiness Program and New Student Orientation. During Orientation, Peer Mentors prioritize building positive, supportive relationships; teaching students to navigate campus and orientation activities; fostering inclusion among students with and without disabilities; and promoting students' safety and wellbeing.

Specific responsibilities include attending educational sessions, meals, and group activities during the Readiness Program; accompanying students to SOAR orientation activities; assisting students to and from their residence halls as needed throughout the week; and helping students manage their schedules and navigate the time and location of orientation activities.

Time Commitment

Summer peer mentors must be available to provide support during the following events:

Orientation

Activities:

  • GLOBAL Inclusive Readiness Program
    • August 18 9:00am-1:00pm
    • August 19 9:00am-1:00pm
  • SOAR Orientation
    • August 20-23 (Times TBD)

Orientation Peer Mentors may work up to 20 hours during Orientation Week but may be scheduled for fewer hours based on program needs, as determined by GLOBAL Inclusive staff. All hours worked between August 21, and August 23 must be submitted by Friday, August 21.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working as a Peer Mentor is required (can include volunteering experience)
  • Undergraduate student with a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for supporting fellow students who have intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Demonstrate patience, adaptability, and independence

These positions will remain posted until filled, with a preferred application date of July 21, 2026.

This position is benefits-eligible for workers' compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
