Summary:
The Postsecondary Workforce Readiness Specialist (PWRS) is a resource and guide for high school students as they develop, pursue, and complete meaningful postsecondary pathways aligned to their interests and regional workforce needs. This position serves as a liaison between secondary education, postsecondary institutions, workforce systems, and employers to ensure every student graduates with a plan for postsecondary education, training, military service, and/or employment.
This position supports the completion of students' Individual Career and Academic Plans.
- Student Advising and Support
- Collaborate to provide individual and small-group advising, classroom lessons, presentations and outreach to students and families focused on postsecondary planning, career pathways, and workforce readiness.
- Support students in exploring careers and related industry recognized credentials, and selecting aligned coursework and experiences.
- Assist students with postsecondary applications, including colleges, training programs, apprenticeships, and military pathways.
- Support students and families with FAFSA/CASFA completion, financial aid literacy, and scholarship awareness.
- Support seniors with ICAP, including a documented postsecondary transition plan.
- Career Pathways and Workforce Alignment
- Develop, maintain, and communicate clear postsecondary and workforce pathways aligned to labor market data.
- Collaborate with counselors, CTE staff, and administrators to align coursework, college credit, and industry recognized credentials.
- Ensure pathway access and equity for all students, including special populations.
- Work-Based Learning and Employer Engagement
- Coordinate work-based learning opportunities, in conjunction with District WBL Coordinator and classroom teachers, such as internships, job shadowing, career panels, and site visits.
- Serve as the primary school contact for employer and workforce partners.
- Support students in preparing for workplace experiences, including resume development, interview skills, and professional behavior.
- Support the management of WBL in the new college and career readiness platform, Schoo Links, and supports stakeholder use of this platform.
- Postsecondary and Community Partnerships
- Build and maintain building-level partnerships with community colleges, universities, training providers, workforce boards, and community organizations.
- Collaborate with school counselors to coordinate postsecondary events, advising days, career/college tours and speakers and family information sessions.
- Support seamless transitions from high school to postsecondary education or training.
- Serve as primary school contact for postsecondary partners.
- Develop promotional materials to promote career and college exploration opportunities.
- Data, Reporting, and Program Improvement
- Analyze postsecondary and workforce readiness indicators, including enrollment, credential attainment, and work-based learning participation in conjunction with the district WBL and Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator.
- Maintain accurate student records and documentation as required by district and state reporting.
- Use data to identify equity gaps, recommend improvements, and inform school and district planning.
- Utilize Schoo Links to track data and support students with planning, self inventories and WBL monitoring.
