Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the University of Denver (DU) is building an academically diverse faculty and staff with a strong commitment to student support and research through the teacher-scholar model. The ME Department invites applications for a non-tenure track, full-time Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor for the 2026-27 academic year to begin on September 1, 2026. The appointment will be made for a nine-month position only.

The successful applicant will have a passion for teaching and a demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate Mechanical Engineering courses. Duties include teaching around six quarter-based courses per year, advising students, and participating in department and university service. This position does not require research. We seek exceptional faculty who engage students inside and outside the classroom, deliver active and hands-on learning experiences;

and authentically support our mission of broadening participation of all students in STEM.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • A passion for teaching and an ability to teach undergraduate Mechanical Engineering courses.

Required qualifications include:

  • Teaching experience in a college or university setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a teamwork mindset.
  • PhD or terminal degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, engineering, or related field.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage student populations.
  • Experience in mentoring and student advising.

Working environment includes:

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical activities include:

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Salary grade for the position is UC. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000.
