DF AY26/27 TLC Tutor

The Learning Commons (TLC) at Regis University houses Tutoring, the Writing Center, and Academic Success Workshops. Our tutors provide support in a range of subjects through one-on-one and group sessions to promote student confidence and success. Our team of tutors and writing coaches includes undergraduates, graduates, and post-graduates from varied cultural and educational backgrounds. They undergo a formal hiring process and receive training on an ongoing basis to stay current with best pedagogical practices.

Working as a tutor provides the opportunity to develop both interpersonal and oral communication expertise and is excellent practice for any career path.

Tutors can expect to:

  • Engage in one-on-one tutorial sessions in-person and online with students.
  • Engage in synchronous and asynchronous online tutorial sessions.
  • Attend faculty/staff functions to discuss tutoring and develop tutoring skills and techniques.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and meetings.
  • Adhere to policies and protocols set by The Learning Commons.
  • Visit classrooms to promote The Learning Commons and tutoring.
  • Assist in other department development activities, such as helping create a resource bank, and designing/displaying promotional materials.

Position Qualifications

Tutors should be enthusiastic about their academic area of expertise, and about sharing their passion for the subject with others. In order to apply for a tutoring position, the applicant must have
1) an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and/or average grades of B+ or higher in their area of expertise and
2) two faculty references.

Other important characteristics of tutors include excellent interpersonal and oral skills, strong work ethic, flexibility, receptiveness, patience, and empathy. Tutors will learn and employ methods of inquiry and collaboration, and must be sensitive to a variety of communication and learning styles.

Professional Development Training

1) There will be a mandatory two-hour paid orientation for new and returning tutors during the first week of the fall semester.

2) There will also be other forms of training each semester including in-session observations and post-session evaluations.

This position will remain posted until filled, with a preferred Final date to receive applications of August 25th, 2026. Applications received by this date will receive full consideration.

This position is benefits-eligible for workers' compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
