- Answer questions about the Language Center
- Function as a check-in point for students attending language tutoring sessions
- Refer students to appropriate tutors and resources in a welcoming manner
- Provide support to tutors, language partners, and students by building relationships, facilitating communication, de-escalating potential conflicts, and intervening in security matters if needed
- Refer students who wish to receive help outside of scheduled Language Center hours to Polina Maksimovich(Polina.Maksimovich), Language Center Coordinator/CWLC Associate Director
- Demonstrate initiative, follow-through and reliability
- Communicate regularly CWLC Associate Director via email or other means
- Adaptable and flexible
- Intercultural competency and communication skills
- Positive customer service orientation
- Strong demonstrable de-escalation skills and intervention techniques
- Current DU graduate student, located in the Denver area
- Work-study award available for this position
- Experience with social interventions
- Experience as a receptionist or office assistant
- Open-library environment with tables used actively for individual and group study sessions
- Students and other individuals frequently passing through
- Interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate.
- Noise level is moderate to loud, with sounds coming mainly from human voices.
- Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods
- Ability to move about the Language Center or occasionally around campus and transport objects (such as books or laptops) up to 10 lbs.
- Occasionally need to move tables or chairs up to 20 lbs. with assistance from others
- Ability to bend down to plug/unplug small equipment (such as laptops) into or from wall or floor outlets
- This position requires federal work-study; check eligibility through the Financial Aid Office.
- Students will be paid starting at $19.69/hour.
- The Front Desk Assistant must be available to work one or more shifts per week, 2-4 hours per shift, during the Language Center’s regular open hours, which are Monday-Thursday 2pm-6pm during fall, winter and spring quarters.
