Assistant Director of Camper Wellness

The Staenberg-Loup Jewish Community Center of Denver is seeking a full-time employee with high energy, experience, and passion to work on the camps team supporting year-round programming for children entering Kindergarten through 10th grade. The Assistant Director of Camper Wellness will directly work with the Camp Shai team to support their day camp programs in the summer as well as their School’s Out!

programs during the school year.

The Assistant Director of Camper Wellness is primarily responsible for providing oversight and expertise for Camp Shai’s inclusion and character development programming to maximize the accessibility of our programs and to deepen the experience that each camper enjoys through our programs.

Camp Shai is looking for someone to create accommodations to meet the individual needs of children with and without identified needs through tools and strategies such as:

Camper Intakes:
Pre-Enrollment meetings with families and their children to identify what accommodation might be available to create a successful camp experience

Camper Care Plans:
Tangible Care Plans that will prepare seasonal staff to facilitate necessary modifications and create a supportive environment for development and growth

Staff Training:
Specialized training for seasonal staff to understand and support inclusive and restorative behavior management practices

Observations and Technical Assistance:
Surveying program curriculum, activity flow, camp environment, and other factors to determine methods to push camp and seasonal staff closer to inclusivity

Role and Responsibilities Program Development & Oversight Communicate and oversee inclusion policies at Camp Shai and School’s Out!

Engage and facilitate programming to promote positive youth development

Design and implement character-based programming including but not limited to: community-service projects, specialized Juneteenth programs, etc.

Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Programs on the design and implementation of curriculum during School’s Out! programs

Supervise and develop Camp Shai’s Ozrim/Counselor-in-Training program and help oversee its implementation in the summer

Collaborate with the Early Learning School (ELS) on the development of kindergarten readiness resources

Direct Service & Leadership Develop care plans for campers as requested and ensure shared information between Camp Shai and JCC’s Ranch Camp for any shared participants

Support with direct supervision of campers and staff supervision during School’s Out! programs

Support in crisis intervention during Camp Shai and School’s Out! programs

Coach and provide technical assistance to seasonal staff to implement best strategies for children with challenging behaviors or identified needs

Use written and/or verbal communication with families regularly to share…
