This position is based in Denver, Colorado 80205 on a hybrid (3 days per week in office) work schedule.
Position SummarySupports Xcel Energy's Commercial Operations group in ensuring the real time energy demands of its customers are met. Develops knowledge and expertise by completing a series of assignments in the Power Operations, Gas Supply, and Energy Scheduling groups. Acquires utility industry knowledge and proficiency in the skill sets needed to advance into other roles within the Commercial Operations group.
Essential ResponsibilitiesPower System Operations:
Under the supervision of experienced staff, learn to coordinate and maintain hourly energy balance between demand and supply requirements. Assist with dispatching generation facilities and purchase power resources with economic consideration to maintain system reliability. Learn to maximize the economic benefit to the system by identifying additional trading opportunities available through the open market. Pursue NERC certification to become qualified to independently dispatch.Gas Supply:
Under the supervision of experienced staff, coordinate the scheduling and nomination process for gas supply, transportation, and storage volumes.Energy Scheduling:
Assist in scheduling physical energy purchases and sales with Balancing Areas, counter parties, and energy marketers.Training:
Develop general operational knowledge within Commercial Operations across all three operating companies. Expand functional knowledge of Xcel Energy's core businesses beyond Commercial Operations.Staffing Coverage:
Once proficiency is developed in the above areas (Power System Operations, Gas Supply, Energy Scheduling), provide staffing coverage as needed in an area by independently performing the responsibilities of the role in times of high workload or staffing shortages.
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or other field with an emphasis in analytical thinking (i.e. mathematics, social science fields, etc.).
6+ years of experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.
Working knowledge of power system operations, energy industry structure, gas scheduling, or a logistics-based industry is a plus.
Must be able to handle time pressured deadlines on an hourly and daily basis. Ability to work 12-hour shifts with partial work on nights and weekends when working in Power Operations and partial on-call availability over weekends when working in Gas Supply is required.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $73,700.00 to $ per year
