Position Overview
This role provides technical leadership and project oversight for structural engineering activities supporting heavy industrial projects. The position combines hands-on engineering responsibilities with team leadership, resource coordination, and client interaction. The successful candidate will lead structural design efforts, ensure technical quality, and mentor engineering staff while supporting project execution and business growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and oversee structural engineering calculations, design development, and specification preparation for industrial facilities, including analysis for wind, seismic, blast, and internal pressurization loads.
- Lead and support the design of structural steel systems and reinforced concrete foundations
, including new construction, modifications, and retrofits of existing facilities. - Provide technical oversight and independent review of engineering deliverables, including calculations, drawings, and technical documentation, to ensure quality and compliance with applicable standards.
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers and designers, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and ongoing professional development.
- Coordinate with project managers, discipline leads, and leadership to support project staffing, scheduling, and resource planning across multiple projects.
- Interface directly with clients to clarify scope, respond to technical inquiries, and support design reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, and staffing plans; assist with resource forecasting and utilization planning as needed.
- Support proposal development efforts by defining scope, developing engineering budgets, estimating resources, and reviewing schedules and proposal documents.
- Lead discipline-specific or structural-only projects when assigned, ensuring technical execution aligns with project objectives.
- Participate in site visits, construction coordination, and field verification activities to support constructability and resolve design-related issues.
- Facilitate team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of internal standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience supporting structural engineering design for heavy industrial facilities, including oil & gas and power-related infrastructure.
- Strong technical background in structural analysis and design of steel and concrete systems for industrial applications.
- Working knowledge of applicable design codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318
. - Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as Mathcad, STAAD Pro, SAP
2000, SAFE, STRUDL, and/or ANSYS
. - Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, project teams, and leadership.
