We are seeking a motivated Power System Protection Engineer to join a growing Protection & Control team. This role is well suited for an early-career engineer looking to deepen their technical skills in protective relay settings, system modeling, and substation protection schemes while working alongside experienced engineers on real-world power system projects.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across transmission, distribution, and renewable systems in a collaborative, growth-focused environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop protective relay setpoints in accordance with industry standards, best practices, and client requirements
  • Perform relay settings calculations and create downloadable setting files using manufacturer platforms (SEL AcSELerator Quick Set, GE Enervista, etc.)
  • Support protection and control logic development for common substation schemes
  • Utilize power system modeling and analysis software (ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, SKM)
  • Prepare engineering calculations, studies, and technical documentation
  • Assist with equipment selection and data collection for engineering deliverables
  • Coordinate with project teams and other engineering disciplines on assigned tasks
  • Support proposal and business development activities as needed
  • Continue developing technical knowledge and stay current with industry standards and technologies
  • Mentor interns and support entry-level engineers as skills progress
What We’re Looking For
  • 1–4 years of experience in the transmission, distribution, or power industry
  • Foundational understanding of Protection & Control design (one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams)
  • Experience or exposure to protective relay settings development
  • Familiarity with system modeling tools (ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, SKM)
  • Understanding of common protection schemes used in substations and renewable collector systems
  • Experience with Mathcad and Excel for relay calculations
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (DNP, SEL, MMS, Modbus)
  • Working knowledge of IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV)
  • Awareness of NERC PRC standards and industry best practices
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Eagerness to learn, grow, and take on increasing responsibility
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline) from an accredited program
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant engineering experience

Hybrid or flexible work options may be available following an initial onboarding period, based on performance and project needs.
