This role is part of Tera Wave, a satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This network will service tens of thousands of enterprise, data center, and government users who require reliable connectivity for critical operations.
Special Mentions This position is part of Blue Origin's Tera Wave business unit, a newly announced satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. Tera Wave consists of 5,408 optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity for critical operations.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, and test GNC hardware components and systems for the Tera Wave satellite constellation
- Perform trade studies for sizing, specification, and selection of spacecraft GNC hardware including reaction wheels, torque rods, star trackers, and other attitude determination and control components
- Develop technical specifications, interface control documents, and system architecture designs for GNC subsystems
- Analyze GNC hardware performance requirements and validate designs through simulation and testing
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including software engineers, avionics specialists, and mission planners to ensure integrated system performance
- Conduct system performance assessments, stability analysis, and develop risk mitigation strategies
- Provide hands-on support for integration and testing of flight hardware
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware non-conformances and test failures
- Support supplier technical management and evaluation of GNC hardware components
- Contribute to design reviews and documentation throughout the development lifecycle
- Develop and maintain GNC hardware test procedures and verification plans
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
- 3+ years of experience in spacecraft/satellite GNC hardware development, integration, or testing
- Experience with spacecraft attitude determination and control systems (ADCS)
- Knowledge of GNC sensors and actuators such as star trackers, IMUs, reaction wheels, and magnetorquers
- Familiarity with hardware qualification and acceptance testing procedures
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and simulation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field
- Experience with LEO or MEO satellite constellations
- Knowledge of optical communications systems and pointing requirements
- Experience with Q/V-band RF communications systems
- Familiarity with radiation effects on spacecraft hardware
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for GNC modeling and simulation
- Knowledge of spacecraft dynamics and orbital mechanics
- Experience with hardware-software integration for GNC systems
- Previous work on satellite communications systems or networks
- Experience with fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) systems
