As a part of the Engineering team, the Sr. Electrical Engineer-Data Center will provide subject matter expertise on Electrical Engineering design, final engineering, and construction permitting of data center projects as well as utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that all electrical designs are optimized for efficiency, safety, and compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities- Create and manage Electrical Engineering design standards to set requirements for quality, presentation standards, and cost-effectiveness
- Perform project design reviews at specific milestones throughout the final design process and coordinating other internal reviews and approvals by key stakeholders, as needed
- Design and deliver electrical systems for hyperscale data centers, including medium- and low-voltage power distribution, backup power, and emergency systems.
- Prepare and maintain electrical schematics, bills of materials, and construction / installation drawings.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards, including the National Electrical Code (NEC) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) requirements.
- Partner with engineers and key stakeholders to define technical specifications, design criteria, and project budgets.
- Provide electrical design oversight throughout the full data center lifecycle, from early concept through commissioning, ensuring systems meet performance, reliability, and energy-efficiency goals.
- Lead and manage large-scale, multi-site projects across multiple regions, delivering electrical engineering solutions on schedule.
- Work closely with mechanical, architectural, structural, network, controls, and operations teams to seamlessly integrate electrical systems with overall data center infrastructure.
- Track emerging technologies and industry trends in data center electrical engineering, with an emphasis on energy efficiency, resilience, and future scalability.
- Support field engineering and commissioning teams to test, validate, and verify proper installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems and equipment.
- Develop and edit electrical specifications, and support the selection of equipment, systems, and devices.
- Establish and continuously improve electrical design standards and guidelines to ensure consistency, reliability, and efficiency across all data center projects.
- Review Low Voltage (LV), medium voltage collection systems (MVac/MVdc), interconnection, and also substation system designs (HVac/HVdc) for data center, solar, and energy storage projects
- Optimize project designs by drawing upon knowledge of LV, MV collection, transformers, switching, relaying, back-up power, and substation design including best practices, specifications, cost, efficiency, code compliance, performance, and reliability
- Work with data center clients to understand their project specific requirements around reliability, growth increments, capex and opex optimizations, sustainability, construction schedules, and future flexibility.
- Attend design meetings with other team members (internal and external) and lead electrical discussion in the meetings.
- Manage schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect, and other disciplines.
- Design support during construction including field observations, submittal & drawing review, and review and evaluate RFI, RFP, and RFQ submittals, supporting as a project engineer
- Provide technical review and guidance on equipment selection and approved vendor list
- Support data center O&M team with technical knowledge and troubleshooting
