Position SummaryThe Hydraulics Summer Measurements Program in Engineering is recruiting two (2) seasonal temps to collects data essential to the operation, planning, and design of the treated water distribution system. Each year, three major measurement programs and various special studies are conducted. The pressure gauge program measures system pressure at several hundred locations in the service area and is used to detect areas where pressure falls outside acceptable operating parameters.
Data is also used in system design and modeling. Flow tests and zone studies are used to evaluate and improve the operation of the distribution system. C-value tests (Hazen-Williams equation) are conducted to identify mains when reduced carrying capacity that may need to be replaced. Other measurement programs include park studies, consumption analyses and maximum hour studies.
Individuals working in this seasonal temporary position will assist in the installation of equipment as well as, the organization, evaluation, and the collection of data.
This seasonal temporary will join the Engineering division and will:
- Help install equipment for monitoring on the Treated Water System
- Collect data from equipment
- Evaluate data to make sure equipment is working properly
- Present data in spreadsheet form for evaluation
- Computer literate
- Basic knowledge of spreadsheets
- Follow directions
- Work with basic tools (wrenches, screw drivers, hammers)
- Maintain a safe working environment
- Attention to detail
- Ability/desire to work independently as well as with coworkers
- Good communications skills
Seasonal temporary positions do not come with any benefits other than holiday pay and Accrued Paid Sick Leave. Interns and Denver Water Temps accrue one hour of Accrued Paid Sick Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year per the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.
Qualifications Hiring Criteria Education Requirements- HS Diploma or GED
- Student majoring in Engineering, or a related field preferred
- No experience necessary
- Current Colorado driver’s license “R”, with a satisfactory driving record required.
- A background check including education and criminal history.
An offer of employment may be contingent upon satisfactory results of a post-offer drug test and alcohol. Denver Water tests for the following: amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana (THC), opiates, and phencyclidine (PCP). A strength test may also be conducted due to the physical requirements of the position. This strength test may include lifting, pushing, and pulling various amounts of weight as well as crouching, squatting, and lifting one’s own body weight from various positions.
If the position is deemed safety-sensitive or requires a CDL, you will be placed on the random drug and alcohol testing list, which means you may be tested if your name is selected while employed at Denver Water.
