The opportunity:

The Senior Facilities Engineer at the National Western Center (NWC) is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of the building systems and infrastructure within the NWC campus. This includes HVAC, plumbing, mechanical systems, and general facility maintenance. The role requires a proactive, hands-on approach to ensuring the efficient operation of the facilities while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and compliance with all regulations.

What you will do:

Building Operations
  • Assist with energy management efforts, including monitoring and controlling energy consumption of the HVAC and Mechanical systems to improve sustainability and reduce operational costs.
  • Work with your team to ensure the operation, monitoring, maintenance, inspections, and repair of all HVAC, plumbing, mechanical systems to attain optimal functionality and energy efficiency. Regular inspections of the building and surrounding grounds to identify safety hazards, cleanliness issues, or maintenance needs. Work in accordance with State, County, or City Ordinances, Codes, or Laws.
  • Complete ongoing Job Hazard Analysis, SOPs, and other documentation needed for the safety and success of the Facilities Team.
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions and will require occasional after-hours work or on-call availability for emergency situations. This position will also involve lifting, climbing, and the use of ladders, lifts, or scaffolding to access equipment.
  • Perform walks and inspections of building and campus assets weekly checking for faults, failures, or damage.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to all building emergencies.
Campus Operations
  • Work closely with the City and other campus partners to provide support on campus issues related to mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing, drainage, sewage, new construction, and other assets pertaining to the engineering department.
  • Identify needed upgrades around campus that can become future CIP projects. Gather pricing and execute approved CIP projects ensuring the project is completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Build and keep strong positive relationships with partners, clients, and guests around the campus.
Leadership Operations
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules and daily/weekly work assignments.
  • Prepare and submit weekly work reports, tracking project progress, maintenance activities, and operational updates.
  • Maintain accurate job costing records to support budgeting, resource allocation, and operational reporting.
  • Supervise engineering, plumbing, HVAC staff, providing direction, performance feedback, and operational support.
  • Train team members on equipment use, safety procedures, maintenance standards, and best practices.
  • Oversee asset management processes, including inventory tracking, equipment lifecycle planning, and maintenance documentation.
What you will bring along:
  • High School Diploma or GED required, associate degree or technical certification in Building Systems, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience in operations and/or events.
  • 5-8 years of experience in building maintenance, facility operations, or related fields.
