Substation Engineering Manager / Team Lead

As part of our Power sector, you will design, construct, and manage high‑voltage substation projects, ensuring reliable, resilient, and sustainable power delivery. This role is an opportunity to drive infrastructure forward, power innovation, and leave a lasting impact on communities worldwide.
Primary ResponsibilitiesYou’ll draw upon your broad technical knowledge and experience in design and construction of high‑voltage Substation projects to lead, guide, and advise clients, projects, and teams.
- Partner with the Project Manager on scope, schedule, budget, and client management; lead technical execution.
- Develop and implement a project execution plan for the technical aspects of projects.
- Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to team members.
- Support technical scope, schedule, and budget planning, including proposal development, work‑breakdown structure, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
- Mentor, train, and supervise Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
- Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables in line with HDR QMS requirements.
- Lead multiple concurrent projects, utilizing teams in different locations.
- Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise, including attending training and seminars.
- Assist with developing technical papers and presentations that showcase HDR’s capabilities.
- Participate in project reviews as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- PE license.
- Minimum 8 years of technical design experience with high‑voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500kV.
- Experience with IEEE, ANSI, and other applicable design and equipment standards.
- Previous consulting firm experience.
- Track record of working with diverse teams across regions, departments, and technical managers.
- Previous staff supervision experience.
- Self‑starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using industry standard design software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, Webex, Teams, etc.).
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Some travel may be required.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10 years experience in relevant field.
- Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.

The expected compensation range for this position is $132,671 – $189,530 annually, depending on skills, experience, education, and location.
