AECOM West Region Dams and Reservoirs team is seeking a highly experienced, motivated, and technically strong Senior Structural Engineer with dam safety and risk analysis expertise to support and lead multidisciplinary dam and hydropower projects. This individual will serve as a senior technical resource and task leader, contributing to complex engineering analyses, mentoring junior staff, and supporting project delivery and client engagement.
The dams and reservoirs team within the West Water Business Line provides engineering and design services for water storage and hydropower infrastructure, with a focus on dam safety, rehabilitation, and risk-informed decision making.
The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to
:
- Lead and perform advanced structural analyses, including 2D and 3D FEA, for concrete gravity dams, curved gravity dams, arch dams, and hydraulic structures such as spillways, intake towers, and gates
- Serve as a technical lead or task lead on multidisciplinary dam and hydropower projects, ensuring quality, accuracy, and adherence to project requirements
- Provide oversight, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior engineers and support staff
- Prepare and review structural design calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications for dam and hydraulic structure projects
- Lead or support dam safety inspections and condition assessments
- Participate in and contribute to Potential Failure Mode Analyses (PFMA) and dam safety risk assessments, serving as a subject matter expert, facilitator, or technical contributor
- Develop and present technical materials to internal teams, clients, and external review boards
- Support project management activities, including scope development, budget tracking, scheduling, and client coordination
- Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal preparation, technical approach development, and client engagement
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and 10+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and 15+ years of relevant experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the U.S.
- Demonstrated experience serving as a task lead, discipline lead, or project engineer on complex infrastructure projects
- Direct experience with dam design, evaluation, and rehabilitation
- Experience participating in dam safety risk analyses, including PFMA workshops (as SME, contributor, or facilitator)
- Proficiency with structural and analytical software such as ANSYS, SAP
2000, LS-DYNA, MathCAD, and AutoCAD Civil 3D - Strong experience preparing and reviewing engineering reports, technical memoranda, drawings, and specifications
- Proven ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication skills with experience presenting to clients, stakeholders, and technical review panels
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
