Cold-Formed Steel Engineer

Job Summary

Our office in Lakewood, CO seeks a Cold‑Formed Steel Engineer to design cold‑formed steel systems for commercial building projects, including building enclosures, interior walls and ceilings, shaft walls, structural framing, and bearing wall structures. The role focuses on prefabrication, panelization, modular construction and BIM/VDC services, and involves collaborating with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams across the U.S. and Canada.

• Full life‑cycle project design from kick‑off to construction document production and construction oversight.
• Join and lead project teams in our Building Design and Non‑building structures studios.
• Produce engineering documents such as reports, calculations, and drawings that are complete and technically accurate.
• Assist clients with technical design issues, coordinate document preparation, and manage submittals.
• Utilize design software such as CFS, RISA, Enercalc, RAM, Bluebeam, and REVIT to produce construction drawings.

• ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Registered EIT.
• 2–5 years of experience in cold‑formed steel engineering with a commercial building focus.
• Experience on projects of similar breadth and depth of structural engineering services offered by Salas O’Brien.
• Desire to work toward the company’s goal of excellent and timely service.
• Experience in the design of concrete, masonry, steel, and foundations is required; experience in the following is a plus:
• Registered Professional Engineer
• Cold‑formed Steel
• Seismic design categories D, E and F
• Extreme wind loading
• Blast‑resistant structures
• Strong time‑management skills and self‑starter attitude required.
• Ability to learn from and work with other team members.

Up to 10%.

The expected base salary range for this role is $80,000–$92,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will depend on skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
