Job Overview

We are adding a QC Specialist to our Kiewit team to support Heavy Civil Infrastructure Construction projects that involve earthwork, grading, site balancing, utilities, drainage, underground trenching, stormwater systems, paving, and concrete aspects of Transportation, Power and Water projects, around the United States. In this role, you will provide Quality oversight for the construction team, ensuring our projects are built to the quality requirements, specifications and client requirements required, performing testing, inspections and general quality guidance and training for the construction team to ensure all quality control activities are planned, executed and documented according to the contract and our internal quality program.

At its core, your role is to protect the project from risk. You will report to a Quality Manager at the site and will work on projects that may be 6 months to multi‑years in duration with great mentoring and development to take you to the next level.

District Overview

Central District operates in the central and south‑central regions of the United States. We build heavy civil and transportation projects, including highways, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams and tunnels. With one of the largest equipment fleets in the region, we can mobilize to any location as a full‑service construction team capable of self‑performing mass grading, drainage, bridge construction, aggregate production, paving, rail and utility construction.

Location

As a Quality Specialist, you will support projects around the United States. We support projects in CO, MT, WY, NM, ND, SD, NE, KS, MO, IA, MN, KY and TN. In this role, you must be willing to travel to project sites as needed and visit our district office in Lone Tree, Colorado occasionally for training and meetings. When assigned to a project site, we provide per diem and trips home.

For your initial project, you will be located in Louisville, KY.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the project’s inspection and test plans (ITPs) for earthwork, utilities, drainage, structures, paving, and other civil scopes.
  • Coordinate daily inspections and testing to match production schedules so crews are never waiting on quality sign‑offs.
  • Perform or oversee verification inspections for high‑risk activities and ensure acceptance criteria are met.
Documentation and Compliance Management
  • Ensure all inspection reports, test results, NCRs, corrective actions, and quality records are complete, accurate, and audit‑ready.
  • Review and approve inspection/test results for compliance with contract documents, codes, and standards.
  • Manage source and receiving inspections for permanent materials (pipe, rebar, aggregates, structural components).
Cross‑Functional Coordination
  • Work closely with operations to build work packages that clearly define required inspections, tests, and documentation before work begins.
  • Lead pre‑activity meetings to confirm readiness and prevent rework.
  • Communicate proactively with owners, third‑party inspectors, and design partners to address concerns before they arise.
Supplier and Subcontractor Quality Oversight
  • Review supplier quality documentation for contract compliance.
  • Ensure subcontractors follow Kiewit’s quality program and project‑specific requirements.
  • Verify that materials and equipment meet specifications before installation.
Cost and Risk Management
  • Forecast and track costs for third‑party testing and inspection services.
  • Identify quality‑related risks early and work with project leadership to mitigate them.
  • Help prevent cost impacts from rework, schedule delays, or non‑conforming work.
Leadership and Mentoring
  • Guide junior quality specialists and field engineers on quality processes, documentation, and technical requirements.
  • Set expectations for quality culture on the project, reinforcing Kiewit’s standards for safety, workmanship, and accountability.
Qualifications
  • Self‑starter with exceptional organization and interpersonal skills.
