Summary
Mortenson is currently seeking a Safety Engineer that will be responsible for implementing Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program at a project site and ensuring a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction work site. This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.
Expected start date is April/May timeframe.
VISA Sponsor ships are NOT offered for this position. Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B, 0-1, TN, CPT, OPT).
This is not a remote position. Must be willing to travel anywhere in the U.S., although the project is specific to CO. When the project is completed, you will be asked to go to another project in the U.S. This is not a contract based position.
This is not a management level position.
Regular rotations home are offered 1X/month for 5 days every 3 weeks. We provide assistance for temporary housing.
- MUST meet these requirements otherwise the application will not be considered:
- Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred.
- OR high school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30‑Hour training, and a minimum of five years of construction experience.
- Implement and administer safety program at each worksite, assist in developing site‑specific safety activities, conduct safety orientation/training.
- Document and track safety violations, conduct safety audits, analyze safety data, assist with major incident analysis, manage OSHA reporting.
- Review safety submittals, monitor trade partner work plans, assist with onsite injury management, organize safety celebrations, participate in project planning/hazard analysis.
- Provide safety‑related information, evaluate industrial hygiene concerns, maintain knowledge of safety standards/regulations, serve as safety resource, attend/chair safety meetings.
- Collaborate with client safety personnel, union representatives, insurance risk engineers, accompany safety/health/OSHA personnel on tours, ensure maintenance of safety equipment, manage PPE and safety budget.
- Build effective relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
- Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred.
- OR high school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30‑Hour training, and a minimum of five years of construction experience.
- Previous related internship experience a plus.
- Current driver’s license.
- Detail‑oriented, able to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety‑related software programs.
- Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills.
- Ability to interpret and communicate company policies.
- Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.
- Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
- Effective communication and active listening skills, openness to diverse input and feedback, ability to travel up to 100%.

One year of related experience plus above. - The base pay range for this role is $81,800 – $110,400
(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
