The role is a Senior RF DOCSIS Test Engineer
Environment:
Cable Labs Certification Lab
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled DOCSIS PHY Certification Engineer to support hands‑on certification testing within the Cable Labs certification lab in Louisville, Colorado. This role is focused on executing and supporting DOCSIS physical layer (PHY) certification testing for cable modems and CPE devices in a true HFC cable environment.
The ideal candidate will have strong, practical experience with DOCSIS RF testing, lab setup, troubleshooting certification failures, and documentation. This is a lab‑based role requiring daily interaction with test platforms, CMTS systems, and HFC plant simulators.
Key Responsibilities
DOCSIS Certification & Lab Operations
Perform DOCSIS PHY layer certification testing on cable modems and CPE devices in accordance with Cable Labs requirements
Configure and manage certification test environments, including:
CMTS platforms
HFC plant simulators
Devices under test (DUTs)
Test Execution & Analysis
Execute Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) using industry‑standard PHY test platforms
Analyze test results and investigate certification failures across modem, CMTS, and simulated plant environments
Perform root‑cause analysis of PHY‑level issues related to RF impairments, device behavior, or interoperability
Test Platforms & Tools
Operate and troubleshoot Averna Jupiter 310 and ePIDoX PHY test systems (experience preferred)
Support operator‑specific or custom test engagements beyond standard certification flows
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and maintain detailed certification reports and technical documentation
Document lab configurations, test execution details, failure analysis, and corrective actions
Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and operators to communicate results and findings
Required Qualifications (Must‑Have)
Hands‑on experience with DOCSIS RF testing in cable/HFC environments
Experience must be DOCSIS‑specific; general RF, wireless, or cellular backgrounds alone are not sufficient
Strong understanding of DOCSIS PHY layer fundamentals and cable modem behavior
Experience configuring and working with CMTS systems and HFC plant simulations
Ability to work full‑time on‑site in a lab environment in the Denver metro area
Preferred Qualifications (Nice‑to‑Have)
Experience with Averna Jupiter 310 and/or ePIDoX PHY test platforms
Prior involvement with Cable Labs certification programs
Exposure to DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1, or DOCSIS 4.0 certification testing
Experience supporting MSO‑specific certification or pre‑certification labs
Work Location & Expectations
On‑site presence required for the first 6 months (no exceptions)
Candidates must be located in or willing to commute to the Denver/Louisville, CO area
Limited remote flexibility may be considered after initial ramp‑up, based on lab needs and performance
What We're Looking For
This role is well‑suited for a candidate who:
Is comfortable working hands‑on in a DOCSIS certification lab
Understands the full cable RF ecosystem, from PHY behavior to HFC plant conditions
Enjoys structured testing, repeatability, and detailed technical analysis
Can clearly document test results and collaborate with engineering stakeholders
