What You Will Do- Collaborate with plant and engineering staff to identify possible chemical or materials engineering tool-related problems.
- Design and plan equipment layout to optimize chemical and materials engineering processes.
- Perform laboratory studies of manufacturing steps and test proposed processes in small-scale operations such as a pilot plant to ensure feasibility and viability.
- Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials to develop and optimize materials for engineering design.
- Monitor material performance and evaluate deterioration to ensure required specifications are met.
- Design, develop and test metallic and non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for engineering designs.
- Research and develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes.
- Determine arrangement of operations such as mixing, crushing, heat transfer, distillation, oxidation, hydrogenation, and polymerization to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes to optimize engineering design of structures, systems and subsystems.
- Perform material analyses including failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
- Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
- Review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
- Ongoing production monitoring and troubleshooting of problems associated with all assigned aircraft programs.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing cost and process variation.
- Serve as liaison interdepartmentally within Pueblo regarding production issues associated with aircraft programs.
- Serve as liaison between Troy, other carbon sites, and Pueblo regarding support/information for aircraft programs.
- Maintain and/or write specifications and drawings for all assigned aircraft programs at the AMF level and below.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
- Formal education in Chemical or Material Science Engineering.
- 2–5 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing engineering environment.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience.
- Aircraft program and/or project management experience.
- Data mining experience.
- Experience in technical writing and management presentations.
