Job Description
The Plant Optimization Engineer (POE) is a developmental rotational training program designed to develop recent engineering graduates into well‑rounded employees and future leaders at PCA.
What is PCA’s POE Program?
The POE program is a 2‑year rotational training program that provides in‑depth, hands‑on technical training in the Maintenance and Production departments of a corrugated box plant, as well as process optimization projects throughout the plant.
Upon successful completion, POEs transition into a full‑time role within their chosen career path.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Work closely with the POE mentor throughout the program.
- Rotate through Maintenance and Production departments, completing technical training.
- Organize and implement moderate to large process improvements and capital projects focusing on asset health.
- Drive innovative solutions to improve equipment, facility, and plant operations.
- Attend program conferences and off‑site training.
- Collaborate with other POEs, plant leadership, and operators to complete projects.
- Work with the mentor/manager to conceptualize a career path post‑program.
- Follow company policies and share beneficial information with the team.
- Support PCA’s Commitment to Service by adding value and exceeding customer expectations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering required.
- 0‑2 years of engineering experience, including internships or co‑ops.
- Flexibility to work first, second, or third shift during rotations.
- Self‑driven and passionate about hands‑on manufacturing.
- Ability to travel and possession of valid travel documents.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one internship or co‑op in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Paper, Industrial & Systems, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology (other majors considered).
- Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, shop floor software, maintenance work order systems.
- Experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Statistical Process Control.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting salary range: $83,000–$87,000.
- Annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
- Paid vacation: 3 weeks per calendar year.
- Paid holidays.
- Eligibility for benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, AD&DD, disability) within 30 days of hire.
