Senior Substation Physical Engineer

Overview: Working on substation electrical projects for electric utilities, ranging from 12kV to 500kV, with exposure to renewable energy integration.

Location & Travel

Must be located in the Denver, CO or Minneapolis, MN area. The position is Fully Remote but requires travel to customer sites and occasional visits to Portland, OR.

Responsibilities
  • Execute substation physical projects.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and clients.
  • Perform quality control checks on substation physical design projects.
  • Read and design substation physical drawings such as one‑line, three‑line, plan‑section, foundation, and grounding drawings.
  • Create and verify bills of materials for substation physical work.
  • Attend site visits at customer locations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with 2+ years of substation physical design experience.
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to interact with internal teams and clients.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in high‑pressure situations.
  • Collaborative and leadership skills in a team environment.
  • Self‑starter capable of working independently with minimal direction.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem‑solving in both team and independent settings.
  • High computer competency.
  • Willingness to travel to project/client sites and Portland, OR office as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Knowledge of protection and control design.
  • Experience with bus calculation.
  • Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.

Compensation

Pay Range: $87,100.00 – $ (annual).
