Critical Operations Engineer II – Night Shift (Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 pm – 6:30 am)
Core Site is looking for a highly skilled Critical Operations Engineer II to maintain the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of our data center’s electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, and communications infrastructure. The candidate will work closely with the Data Center Manager to ensure high uptime, operational efficiency, and cost‑effective service delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the subject‑matter expert for electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire life safety systems.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems including Electrical, Mechanical, Communications, and Building Monitoring and Control.
- Track and trend operational characteristics and provide data‑driven recommendations for improvements.
- Mentor junior staff and provide guidance on maintenance requirements.
- Work with the Data Center Manager to complete a preventive and predictive maintenance schedule.
- Manage systems to prevent unplanned, customer‑impacting outages.
- Maintain the data in CMMS, handle work orders, and resolve site issues based on priority.
- Support infrastructure projects such as cage build‑outs, overhead installations, rack and stack, and asset inventory.
- Provide day‑to‑day customer service, incident escalation, and report writing.
- Monitor and secure the building fire alarm system and conduct regular facility tours.
- Adhere to Core Site’s Principles of Operational Excellence and the eight Guiding Principles.
- Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in data center environments, including distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, UPS, STS, PDU, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH, and pre‑action sprinkler systems.
- Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, 72, 25, and fire life safety codes.
- Expert knowledge of fiber optics and cabling infrastructure best practices.
- Expert knowledge of industrial safety practices (lockout/tag‑out, arc flash, OSHA, state regulations).
- Expert knowledge of data trending, analysis, and use of integrated critical monitoring systems.
- 5–7 years of experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems such as chilled water, HVAC, BMS, PLC, diesel generators, and UPS.
- Proven leadership and mentorship skills.
- Expertise in laying, pulling, dressing, and terminating fiber and copper cabling.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing IT hardware, servers, switches, and structured cabling.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Effective communication with customers, staff, and contractors.
- Quick learning and problem solving during both normal and after‑hours periods.
- Strong multi‑tasking in a process‑driven environment.
- Proficiency with hand and machine tools, electrical tools, and measurement instruments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in a mechanical/electrical role within critical facilities (data center, hospital, or power plant preferred).
- Successful background check (criminal history, references, employment and education verification, DMV, and credit check).
Special Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach for up to 2/3 of the shift.
- Maximum lift of 50 lb. 1/3 of the time.
- Works under high stress, fast‑paced conditions with shifting priorities.
- Willingness to work outside normal hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on‑call support.
Base salary: $38.00 / hr – $43.00 / hr, plus an annual bonus and equity based on performance.
