Position Overview

As a Sr. Project Manager at LJA Rail
, you are responsible for leading the planning, design, implementation, and management of railroad signal and train control projects. This role provides technical leadership, project oversight, client management, and mentoring of engineering staff while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company objectives.

A Typical Day Might Include
  • Design development for freight railroad projects
  • Develop engineering plans, specifications, estimates, and technical reports
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable regulations, including standards established by the Federal Railroad Administration, American Railway Engineering Association, and railroad owner requirements
  • Provide technical expertise for signal system upgrades, new installations, and maintenance programs
  • Review engineering deliverables for quality, accuracy, and constructability
  • Manage multiple signal engineering projects from concept through construction and closeout
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, electrical, communications, and construction personnel
  • Prepare and present project status reports to clients and leadership
Required Education / License / Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of railroad signal engineering experience
  • 7+ years of project management and team leadership experience
  • Experience with Class I railroads, short‑line railroads, transit agencies, and/or industrial rail facilities
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex signal design and implementation projects
