The Opportunity

This opportunity with Black & Veatch supports civil engineering efforts within the Mission Critical Solution, where infrastructure is designed to protect national security and support high consequence federal missions. Mission critical infrastructure extends beyond visible facilities to the resilient systems and sites that must perform without failure. Black & Veatch partners with the U.S. Federal Government to deliver secure, sustainable planning and design solutions for federal facilities worldwide, reducing risk through collaboration, innovation, and reliable civil site development in complex operating environments.

The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Associate Engineering Technician supports civil site development by producing and modifying engineering drawings and models under close supervision. This role applies foundational civil engineering principles to develop accurate, high quality deliverables using tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D, helping ensure site designs are functional, and aligned with mission critical goals.

Key Responsibilities

* Supports engineering teams under general supervision

* Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices

* Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)

* Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables

* Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians

* Stay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures

* Apply knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables

* Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives

* Use and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures

* Create and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs

* Perform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks

* Coordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences

* Support internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers

* Proactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes

Preferred Qualifications

* Diploma or Certificate required.

* Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

* Typically a minimum of 2 years related work experience.

* All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

* Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
