As a Project Engineer Co‑op at Steel Fab, you’ll immerse yourself in the diverse and dynamic world of the construction industry. Working closely with our Project Management and Estimating teams, you’ll gain hands‑on experience across various projects. During your three co‑op rotations, you’ll progressively build your expertise, taking on key responsibilities that will enhance your skills and prepare you for a successful career.
Key Responsibilities First Rotation:Estimating
- Engage with the Estimating department to gather subcontractor pricing for new project estimates.
- Review and analyze subcontractor bids to ensure alignment with project specifications.
- Perform detailed material and labor take‑offs.
- Prepare pricing recaps for senior leadership.
- Visit job sites to build relationships with clients and vendors.
- Gain hands‑on experience with the fabrication flow and production processes, deepening your understanding of the entire construction lifecycle.
Project Management
- Oversee and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely delivery of all project milestones.
- Draft and issue purchase orders and subcontracts to vendors.
- Prepare and submit pricing for change order requests.
- Evaluate design drawing revisions to identify and manage scope changes effectively.
- Conduct job site visits to foster strong relationships with clients and vendors, ensuring alignment on project goals.
- Manage the coordination of construction drawings and models, and review submittals for compliance and accuracy.
- Collaborate with onsite subcontractors to identify and resolve field issues.
Estimating or Project Management
The work area will be determined based on the Co‑ops’ performance/preference. The business needs of Steel Fab at this time will be taken into consideration.

Minimum Education Level: Sophomore
Major: Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields
Required: High level competency in PDFs, Microsoft Project, Excel and Word, and common computer skills. Valid driver’s license
Preferred: Some experience in the construction or engineering industry through work, internships, or part‑time employment
