Description
Burns & McDonnell is looking for an experienced engineer to lead its National Environmental Remediation Engineering practice. This individual will join its operations to manage and support environmental investigation and remediation projects for clientele within a variety of business sectors including electrical utility, oil and gas, solid waste, mining, manufacturing, and others.
The individual will work directly with the Remediation Technical Service Area Leader to manage a national portfolio of projects which involve some of the most challenging environmental issues of today while leveraging cutting-edge technology applied in the remediation industry. Typical workload will include the application of 3D visualization modeling, forensic studies and investigation, high resolution site characterization (HRSC), remediation technology evaluation and strategy development, remediation systems engineering design, and implementation.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will help expand our remediation and environmental engineering services and client base in the region.
This position requires experience performing and managing all aspects of environmental site assessment and remediation projects from initial site assessments to hydrogeologic investigations, development of conceptual site models, contaminant fate and transport, remedial action design and implementation, etc.
Experience with emerging contaminants of concern including PFAS and experience investigating coal combustion residuals (CCR) is strongly preferred.
The successful candidate will develop and support multiple projects from a remediation and environmental engineering perspective as well as manage and complete independent project tasks. These activities may include marketing and business development, proposal development, developing scopes of work and schedules, providing technical experience in the development of client deliverables, negotiating with regulatory agencies, managing subcontractors, contracts, schedules, and budgets. As a client facing role, the successful candidate will have experience in the pursuit and execution of EPC projects, client development up to and including a trusted advisor role, competitor understanding and evaluation, etc.
Additionally, engagement with AI and similar innovations is highly favorable.
The engineer will work within our national Remediation Director and collaborate broadly in support of our Environmental Services Global Practice (division) national Civil Construction group to perform the following duties:
+ Performing task and project management responsibilities for manufacturing, transportation, solid waste, Coal Combustion Residual (CCR), and other civil/environmental engineering projects.
+ Managing accuracy, scope, budgets, contracting, quality control and quality assurance, safety, reporting, schedule and client expectations.
+ Act as a technical leader for environmental remediation and engineering projects and clients at all stages of engagement.
+ Lead multidiscipline engineering design teams for civil/environmental related projects regarding the technical delivery.
+ Remediation system design and operation, including in-situ remedies, cover systems, recovery and treatment, waste management, etc.
+ Client and business development, networking and broadcasting, account management, and training.
+ Assisting with and leading proposal and cost estimating efforts for environmental engineering and remediation projects to develop the right scope for the client. Challenge the client and proposal team when alternative ideas are favorable. Develop and communicate our differentiators on pursuits.
+ Interface with various agencies, clients and internal and external team members and partners. Develop and lead strategic efforts
+ Mentoring and generally working closely with junior level environmental staff.
+ Assist with recruiting, development, and training of staff.
+ Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor Degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 13 years environmental engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
+ Bachelor Degree in Environmental or Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. and 13 years environmental engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
+ Master Degree in Environmental Engineering and 12 years environmental engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
+ Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of environmental design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE). Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

Experience with project management, environmental regulation, and agency coordination (EPA, state agencies, etc.) is preferred.
