Your Opportunity

The role of a Project Engineer is to lead engineering teams on various‑sized roadway projects. As a leader, they will be responsible for preparing and sealing designs and ensuring the development and delivery of successful civil projects. A Project Engineer will provide direct supervision; act as an advisor and be actively involved to meet schedules and resolve problems as they arise.

The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing the scope and integration of sub‑consultants and employees. It is also anticipated that the Project Engineer supports business development and the delivery of proposals. Opportunity provides for a hybrid work environment. In‑office presence is expected based on project needs, client meetings, and team collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the review and sealing of roadway projects.
  • Performs on technically complex projects and acts as a technical resource by providing guidance to other team members on transportation‑related projects.
  • Liaise with clients, agencies, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.
  • Assist Project Manager in the preparation of client proposals, reports, and the development of project design elements including specifications and estimates.
  • Create detailed 3‑D roadway corridor models using computer‑aided design software including AutoCAD Civil3D and Micro Station Open Roads Designer.
  • Utilize model‑based design visualization software, such as Infra Works, Lumen

    RT, Concept Station, or Beyond Typicals, to support design development and client communications. Identify and analyze the principal design features and major design alternatives that satisfy the project’s purpose and the client’s needs.
  • Develop feasible design alternatives to be compared against significant project parameters such as site conditions, right‑of‑way requirements, utility conflicts, design standards, safety, environmental impacts, community input, and cost.
  • Produce detailed, high‑quality final design plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Peer review plans and provide quality control reviews of technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Develop and/or manage highway and roadway projects for CDOT or local governmental agencies.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrate recent experience developing highway and/or roadway projects for CDOT and/or local governmental agencies.
  • Ability to lead design teams, manage projects, and check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Understands client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, invoicing, and collecting accounts receivable.
  • Technical leader in all relevant areas of design and understanding of various design methods.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft suite of Office 365 products.
  • Ability to lead meetings with the client, design teams, and other agencies.
  • Effective communicator and able to work with and lead teams.
  • Proficient in relevant design software, which may include AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station Open Roads, and 3‑D modeling experience preferred.
  • Ability to see the big picture of roadway projects.
  • Understand or have experience in storm drain design, utility relocations, and traffic designs a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (emphasis in Transportation preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Colorado. Additional licensure, or ability to acquire, within western US preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in roadway design or similar.
  • Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
  • Project Management experience a plus.
Pay Range
  • Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas - $ - $ Annually
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas - $ - $ Annually
