Summary

Responsible for providing structural engineering support by completing parts of large design projects or the entirety of less complex projects. Collaborate with project engineers and managers in the generation and production of structural calculations and drawings for projects involving bridges, walls, culverts, and other civil structures. Work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and landscape architects.

Salary Range

$95,000 – $120,000 annually plus bonuses, dependent on factors including experience and location.

Locations

Colorado Springs, Denver, Phoenix, or San Antonio.

Essential Functions
  • Perform in‑depth structural calculations based on applicable structural codes and local standards.
  • Prepare computer‑generated engineering drawings using the latest version of AutoCAD.
  • Reference structural codes and local standards to understand and apply their requirements to design.
  • Revise or change drawings and complete moderate calculations with specific instructions.
  • Prepare project specifications, approximate quantity summaries, and engineering cost estimates.
  • Create informational graphic exhibits for internal and external meetings.
  • Complete work within scope, schedule, and budget limits and estimate scope and budget for task order proposals.
  • Collaborate with team members to produce quality designs and construction documents in accordance with Matrix and municipality standards.
  • Work collaboratively within larger group, multi‑task, and assist others in meeting project deadlines.
  • Support calculations, construction specs, and permitting in various jurisdictions.
  • Work within defined scope, schedule, and budget parameters.
  • Communicate appropriately with project managers and team concerning questions, concerns, progress, and results.
  • Perform Level 1 quality assurance/quality control.
Competencies
  • In‑depth knowledge of structural finite element and frame modeling software.
  • Outstanding knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Ability to incorporate feedback and translate it into detailed, accurate plans.
  • Ability to manage data references from preliminary design through final construction.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • Assign tasks to and coordinate with entry‑level engineers and designers.
  • Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of engineering work.
  • Assist with proposals, contracts, and client management.
  • Prepare scope, schedule, and budget parameters.
  • Mentor and train staff as needed.
Education And Experience
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited civil engineering program with an emphasis in structural engineering.
  • Professional Engineering licensure or ability to obtain a PE within one year.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive structural engineering experience.
  • Strong industry relationships and understanding of municipal, state, and federal criteria.
  • Demonstrated project and program management experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and successful completion of the company’s MVR.

Physical Demands
