CDOT's Region 2 Survey / Right-of-Way Unit in Pueblo has an exciting opportunity for a Professional Land Surveyor I. This team supports the delivery of the Right-of-Way (ROW) program for the development and maintenance of Colorado's transportation system and is responsible for ensuring statewide consistency in land surveying and ROW plan functions.
In this role, you will apply your professional surveying knowledge and licensure to perform and oversee office and field survey activities, helping to develop accurate survey products and Right-of-Way plans that support the successful delivery of transportation projects throughout southeastern Colorado.
Responsibilities- Perform field surveying including Control Survey, TMOSS (Terrain Modeling Survey System) topography surveys, and Boundary Survey field work.
- Includes recovery, establishment, and restoration of controlling land corners, property and ROW corner evidence, Bench Marks and other existing monuments.
- Evaluate survey field notes, evidence, and researched information by using mathematics, computer software, and knowledge of laws pertaining to land surveying.
- Research survey data, establish survey control, field data collection, data interpretation, preparation of plans, legal descriptions, preparation and recording of legal documents, monumentation, and consultant management.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and training to other survey positions within the region.
- Conduct research of property adjoining State ROW when identifying ownership.
- Determine positions of property lines and corner positions based on field work and examination of boundary data found in deeds, plats, historic Right-Of-Way Plans, design plans, and other sources.
- Create ROW Plans by drawing, labeling, and annotating ROW lines, property lines, topography and other features using Bentley Open Roads software.
- Calculate areas of land parcels and easements to be acquired using mathematics and computer software.
- Stamp and sign ROW Plans and descriptions as required by State Law.
- Provide estimated schedules for field surveying and/or ROW Plan preparation.
- Prepare, certify, and file all necessary documents with the appropriate agencies as required by state statute and by the State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.
- Communicate with Project Design Personnel, Right-Of-Way Acquisition Personnel, Surveyors in the Unit.
- Attend survey unit meetings, Project meetings, FIR (Field Inspection Review), FOR (Final Office Review) and facilitate ROWPR (Right-Of-Way Plan Review) and Pre-Construction Survey meetings.
- Must ask questions, provide input, and support the development of construction plans and ROW plans.
- Find, catalog, and file existing highway Right-of-Way information and documents.
- Provide filed ROW information to internal units, specialty units, other public agencies, and the public as requested (CORA).
- Investigate and communicate the Region’s response, orally or in writing, to external customer requests concerning survey and Right-Of-Way Plan activities.
