Position: Senior Water Resources Engineer - Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers

Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers has an immediate opening for a Senior Water Resources Engineer in the Transportation Engineering group located in Lone Tree, CO. The role involves executing complex water resource designs for projects across North America—including design‑build, public‑private partnerships (P3) and construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) projects—while providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid‑level staff.

Location

This position will be based out of our Lone Tree, CO office. It is not a remote opportunity, though relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities
  • Design and analyze drainage systems, perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis using various models and methods, and prepare design plans, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Mentor and lead others in delivery of drainage and hydraulic & hydrologic functions.
  • Hydrology
    • Single‑event and continuous rainfall modeling; watershed analysis, hydrograph development and routing.
    • Proficiency with HEC‑HMS, SWMM, TR‑55, SBUH, and HSPF.
  • Hydraulics
    • Pavement drainage, culverts, storm systems, pump stations, bridge sizing and scour.
    • Knowledge of FHWA hydraulic engineering circulars and design series.
    • Flood analysis, NFIP, LOMR/CLOMR, stormwater quantity/quality calculations, LID, NPDES compliance, and erosion control.
    • Channel hydraulics and design, including restoration techniques and alternative lining concepts.
    • Software: HEC‑RAS, HEC‑GEORAS, HY‑8, SWMM, Culvert Master, Storm CAD, Civil Storm, Pond Pack, Flow Master, SRH‑2D, FLO‑2D.
  • Drainage Design
    • Develop drainage plans, profiles, specifications, and estimates for transportation and water resources projects.
    • Use models such as Inroads, Arc‐GIS, Micro Station, AutoCAD, GEOPAK, Civil3D, Open Roads Designer, HydroCAD.
    • 3D modeling and programming experience is a plus.
  • Technical Expert
    • Provide technical guidance and oversight for non‑traditional water resources projects.
    • Mentor and lead junior engineers and designers.
    • Stamp Engineer of Record approval on drawings and specifications.
    • Compile permits and reports for regulatory approval.
    • Track project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Support proposal activities and interdisciplinary design coordination.
  • Participate in project communication, technical meetings, and resolve design issues.
  • Own engineering work and potentially act as Engineer of Record for final design projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field, with 12+ years of design experience in drainage, water resources, hydraulics, or hydrology for transportation or land development projects.
  • PE license required.
  • Experience with U.S. transportation projects; design‑build project experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic software: HEC‑HMS, SWMM, TR‑55, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑GEORAS, HY‑8, Culvert Master, Storm CAD, Civil Storm, Pond Pack, Flow Master, and 2D tools such as SRH‑2D, FLO‑2D.
  • Knowledge of FHWA hydraulic engineering circulars and design series; flood risk analysis and NFIP (CLOMR, LOMR).
  • Experience with stormwater quantity/quality calculations, NPDES compliance, erosion control, and coastal considerations for highway and transit drainage.
  • Mentoring experience and ability to develop workflows and training materials.
  • Occasional travel up to 25% to project offices and work sites.

Compensation and Benefits

Base Compensation: $150,000/yr – $165,000/yr (actual compensation varies with education, experience, skill set, and/or location).
