Position: Project Manager - Water Conveyance / Pipelines (Denver)

Overview

Strong project managers are essential to our success. We’re looking for a project manager to lead some of the industry’s best engineers while executing highly technical, complex engineering water systems projects focused on drinking water and raw water transmission and distribution systems, as well as wastewater collection systems and storage tanks. It takes many skills to manage projects in the engineering industry, from forming and maintaining relationships with clients and partners, to delivering projects, to staying in step with current and future regulations, to actively seeking out the next project.

We are looking for experienced project managers to join our growing Water practice in Denver, Colorado.

Burns & McDonnell is a 100% employee-owned company with a long history in the water/wastewater business. Our Denver office is home to engineering, environmental, and construction professionals who work to create successes for our clients across a diverse range of projects nationwide.

Our Denver Water team focuses on water and wastewater projects for municipal and industrial clients, spanning treatment, distribution, and collection. Our project managers are part of the leadership team, shaping projects we pursue and helping win new work. We are looking for project managers with technical backgrounds in planning, design, and construction.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance of all aspects of multi-discipline engineering projects from concept to completion, including safety, quality, procurement, construction, environmental compliance, project controls, and public/community relations.
  • Establish project teams, coordinate activities of multiple disciplines, and ensure efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
  • Manage all aspects of project communication.
  • Lead the Project Management team in RFP package development, bid and selection processes, and scope of work documents.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, manage scope, and control project costs.
  • Identify opportunities and manage efforts for submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiation, and related activities.
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients regarding coordination, strategic planning, master scope management, budget finances, subcontracting, staffing, environmental compliance, facility support and schedule attainment.
  • Manage review, negotiation, approval, and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, and change orders.
  • Lead internal and external project risk reviews and consult with Risk Department as required.
  • Manage internal project financials, providing cost forecasts and accruals to clients and leadership.
  • Develop and implement project policies and procedures, establish project controls, and execute the project plan.
  • Report progress, cost and schedule metrics, procurement issues, safety or environmental concerns, design questions, potential impacts, and issues requiring support.
  • Manage contract closeout activities and ensure compliance with company policies and site safety.
  • Leverage and develop client relationships to focus on repeat work within each client account.
  • Support business strategy for developing new opportunities in planning and digital water solutions.
  • Proactively identify and position Burns & McDonnell for upcoming projects and opportunities.
  • Provide direction with the sales team for industry engagement through events, conferences, and contacts.
  • Provide industry feedback or trends to water leadership and mentor project teams through formal and informal training.
  • Ensure deliverables meet client satisfaction and align with internal QA/QC guidelines.
  • Comply with company policies and safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field from an accredited program required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience (10 years preferred) in design engineering, including 3+ years of experience managing engineering projects. Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.
  • Previous consulting experience preferred.
  • Professional Registration preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in project management strongly preferred.
