Project Engineer - Water / Wastewater About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Water/Wastewater Engineer who is ready to grow into a project leadership role. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of infrastructure projects while working alongside an experienced and collaborative team.
You'll be involved in planning, designing, and delivering projects across water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, treatment facilities, and pump stations. This role includes both technical design and project coordination, with exposure to local and broader regional initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Support and manage engineering assignments across multiple water and wastewater projects
- Develop construction drawings, technical specifications, and supporting documentation
- Perform engineering calculations and analyses to inform design decisions
- Prepare cost estimates, scopes of work, and preliminary design concepts
- Coordinate with internal team members, subconsultants, and external stakeholders
- Ensure designs align with regulatory requirements, client standards, and project goals
- Participate in field investigations and support data collection efforts as needed
- Provide construction-phase support, including responding to RFIs and reviewing contractor work
- Assist with schedule development, tracking, and maintaining project budgets
- Contribute to proposal preparation and support client presentations or interviews when needed
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- Approximately 4-10 years of relevant experience in water or wastewater engineering
- Familiarity with design of pipelines, sewer systems, treatment processes, or rehabilitation projects
- Understanding of permitting requirements at the federal, state, and local levels
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment
- Experience working in fast-paced project settings with tight deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of engineering design tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS platforms, or similar software (preferred)
- Familiarity with hydraulic analysis, constructability considerations, and technical report preparation
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Experience working with municipal or regional clients
Hourly Range: $45 - $65 per hour. Compensation will vary depending on experience, education, certifications, and overall qualifications.

This position is primarily based in an office setting, with occasional field visits as project needs require. Fieldwork may involve outdoor conditions and site inspections. Some light lifting and travel may be expected.
