Geotechnical Senior Managing Engineer
McMillen, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Senior Managing Engineer with a strong technical background to help deliver exceptional service to our clients. The Senior Managing Engineer will work in a variety of water‑related projects in fields including but not limited to: fisheries, fish passage, hydropower, dams, embankments, levees, flood control structures, pump stations, water treatment, and water management. This position is available as remote, in‑person, or hybrid.

Responsibilities- Plan and manage geotechnical investigations, specifically in the realm of soil and rock core logging, laboratory testing, and geotechnical characterization.
- Analyze field data, as‑built plans, and engineering reports to establish existing conditions and identify critical areas for design criteria.
- Manage and review geotechnical modeling and analysis using industry standard software including but not limited to Slide2, RS2, Settle3, LPILE, APILE, GROUP, etc.
- Mentor mid‑level and junior geotechnical staff and provide QA/QC reviews of their work.
- Develop, manage, and maintain client relationships. Actively participate in developing relationships with key clients, participating in professional service organizations, and attending conferences/events. Conduct and participate in workshops and meetings with clients.
- Identify project opportunities, actively pursue opportunities, and prepare proposals. Consult with clients to plan and develop strategies for their water resource needs. Work cooperatively with Practice Leads, Discipline Leads, and Operations Managers in local and national marketing production efforts.
- Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques in order to keep the project plan accurate, updated, reflective of authorized project changes as defined in the change management plan, and facilitate customer acceptance.
- Identify high‑level risks, assumptions, and constraints:
Document high‑level risks, assumptions, and constraints using historical data and expert judgment in order to understand project limitations. - Effectively manage multi‑discipline teams for a wide range of water resources projects and tasks.
- Develop detailed designs, plans, and specifications for infrastructure projects, including pipeline, storage, and pump station design for water systems.
- Manage planning, design and construction support services for water, recycled water and wastewater infrastructure projects (Design Project Manager).
- Work with dam safety personnel and act as a geotechnical or geological subject matter expert for dam safety inspections, PFMAs, and risk analyses.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering required.
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering or related field preferred;
Ph.D. is a plus. - Minimum of 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field.
