Responsibilities & Expectations

We are seeking a talented Transformer Repair & Remanufacture Engineering Manager to lead a team of four engineers at our Denver, CO Transformer Repair & Remanufacturing Facility. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the engineering department to meet company objectives for design, product development, and on‑time delivery.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate brings deep transformer engineering experience, urgency, and leadership presence needed to adapt quickly to internal and external customer needs while guiding the team to deliver world‑class projects. Additionally, the ideal candidate would possess significant experience in both power transformers and special transformers.

Leadership Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop, and support a team of four engineers.
  • Build training plans and support technical competency development across the team.
  • Manage employee responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, recognizing achievement, addressing discipline, resolving complaints, and solving problems.
  • Develop processes that support business needs across the organization.
  • Manage complex issues within the engineering function and area of expertise.
  • Contribute to long‑term planning and the overall IPS Transformer business strategy.
  • Develop and execute a 3‑year engineering roadmap focused on standardization, process improvement, talent development, and scalable growth.
  • Jointly accountable for year‑over‑year revenue and profitability growth with Commercial Manager and Area General Manager.
Engineering Leadership & Project Support
  • Lead the engineering team in providing engineering and project management support for Denver’s Transformer Repair/Remanufacture and Field Service business.
  • Oversee key projects, processes, and performance reports to ensure consistent execution and accountability.
  • Ensure the team delivers cohesive, complete project outcomes that meet business and customer expectations.
Proposal, Design & Technical Review
  • Review customer specifications and summarize material, engineering, and drafting costs for new proposals and change orders.
  • Create, review, and approve technical clarifications, exceptions, and submittals for vendors and customers.
  • Review and approve technical content for proposals and change orders, while providing input on commercial items such as milestone invoicing and project strategy.
  • Support the design of transformer rewinds, uprates, and upgrades across various designs, types, and OEMs during both quotation and execution phases.
  • Conduct design reviews as needed to identify and mitigate project risk.
  • Review and approve engineering analyses, reverse‑engineering work, failure reports, repair instructions, and customer recommendations.
  • Provide escalation support for complex transformer diagnostics, RCFA, design review, testing, and troubleshooting.
Process Improvement, Quality & Business Alignment
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, standards, and programs for the IPS Transformer Services business.
  • Drive material cost reduction, supplier excellence, CIPS continuous improvement objectives, and related on‑site and service center support.
  • Establish goals and program direction that support reliability, cost control, and an unmatched customer experience.
  • Ensure products meet customer, third‑party, and internal specifications, expectations, and standards.
