Position

Summary

A mid‑level Fire Design Engineer in our G&D sector is responsible for designing intermediate building systems, preparing design documents, and performing engineering calculations in coordination with project teams. The engineer will occasionally manage tasks and mentor less experienced designers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform calculations and designs for basic to intermediate systems with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
  • Review shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Prepare or modify reports, plans, and designs for projects.
  • Conduct research and recommend feasible systems or equipment; evaluate product applicability.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members when appropriate.
  • Collaborate on business development and pursuit activities.
  • Participate in client, company, and industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Foster a client‑centric mindset and approach.
  • Communicate with clients as needed for requirements and scope development; maintain proactive communication throughout the project cycle.
  • Answer questions from clients and architects.
  • Visit job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Assist in resolving conflicts involving owners, architects, and contractors as needed.
  • Identify and seek to fill gaps in industry and discipline knowledge continuously.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry software (Revit, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office); act as a resource for training or assistance.
  • Research new products, industry trends, and evolving codes and standards.
  • Understand and apply Henderson’s design guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform a limited range of project management responsibilities under supervision of experienced managers; ask questions when tasks are unfamiliar.
  • Support or be responsible for project coordination activities such as managing emails, coordinating scope and schedule, attending client meetings, ensuring project quality, responding to client questions, and coordinating project delivery.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) and 3 years of relevant experience, or 6 years of experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam preferred.
  • Additional certifications aligned with the technical field (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD) preferred.
  • Certifications aligned with sustainability backgrounds (e.g., CDP, LEED, WELL) preferred.
