AECOM is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Dams & Levees Discipline Lead to lead and support complex infrastructure risk management initiatives. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep expertise in dam and levee safety, risk‑informed decision‑making, and portfolio risk management. The consultant will provide strategic guidance, technical oversight, and coordination to enhance the safety and resilience of critical infrastructure systems.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and application of risk-informed methodologies for dams, levees, and related infrastructure.
- Conduct and review risk assessments, including potential failure modes analysis (PFMA) and semi-quantitative/quantitative risk evaluations.
- Advise clients on prioritization strategies for infrastructure investments based on risk profiles.
- Support the development of dam and levee safety programs, including inspection protocols, risk communication, and emergency action planning.
- Provide subject matter expertise in geotechnical, structural, and hydraulic engineering as it relates to dam safety.
- Guide the integration of innovative tools and data analytics into risk management practices.
- Collaborate with federal agencies (e.g., USACE, FEMA, Bureau of Reclamation), state regulators, and private owners to align safety standards and share best practices.
- Represent clients in technical forums, public meetings, and interagency working groups.
- Oversee or contribute to the execution of major dam safety projects, including design reviews, risk mitigation planning, and construction oversight.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, including FERC, USACE, and FEMA guidelines.
- BA/BS in civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
- 15+ years of relevant dams and/or levee project‑related experience.
- Experience directing or advising national‑level dam safety programs.
- Familiarity with the USACE Risk Management Center framework.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience in dam safety, infrastructure risk management, or related fields.
- Demonstrated leadership in federal or large‑scale infrastructure programs.
- Proficiency in risk modeling tools and dam safety software.
- Experience with federal dam safety programs (e.g., USACE, FERC, FEMA).
- Sponsorship is not available now or in the future for this position.
- Occasional project/client related travel may be required.
