Description

Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer in the Denver, CO area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. In this role you will work directly with clients to ensure that Leidos' reputation for high‑quality work is always maintained. The position offers expertise in NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.

This position is hybrid in nature, where 3 days a week are spent working in the office and 2 days a week can be spent working remotely.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of electrical distribution work packages; perform engineering design and analysis; potentially work on programmatic, capital, or reliability design (e.g., 3rd party attachment/Make Ready, overloaded transformers, reconductor, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR, underground, etc.).

  • Be responsible for QA/QC tasks on your assigned team; play a role in quality reviews of your team's designs prior to submittals for client projects.

  • Review engineering design packages with clients; review and organize existing program work.

  • Perform scope analysis of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.

  • Interact directly with clients on a frequent, as‑needed basis.

  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.

  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assist with work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.

  • Be comfortable in both a field and office setting; customer‑site visits to collect field data may be required.

Background Requirements
  • 4+ years of relevant experience working electric distribution projects in a consulting environment for electric utilities or directly at an electric utility.

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an engineering‑specific bachelor's degree.

  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).

  • Experience with engineering design quality control.

  • Familiarity with pole loading software (O‑Calc, Pole Foreman, etc.) and distribution pole analysis.

  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle; some customer‑related travel may be anticipated (travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates).

  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; customer‑site visits may be required to collect field data.

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • EIT Certification.

  • Previous QA/QC experience.

  • Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC.

  • Demonstrated history of customer interaction.

  • Proven experience and proficiency with STORMS software and GIS.

  • Prior leadership experience.
