Job Overview
bpx Energy, a major U.S. oil and gas producer, specializes in unconventional gas, including shale, and operates in Texas and Louisiana. This role is within the Eagle Ford Development team supporting a multi‑rig program.
Key Accountabilities- Support surveillance data acquisition planning, execution, and interpretation, including assessment of new technology and cost‑efficient data acquisition to de‑risk appraisal and development plans while maximizing return on investment.
- Plan development activities for the multi‑rig program, including subsurface attribute mapping, oil and gas portfolio high grading, well placement/target zone recommendations, and competitor well performance assessment.
- Lead well planning with pre‑spud assessment, geo‑hazards identification and mitigation, offset drilling events correlation, subsurface anomaly flagging, survey frequency protocol, data acquisition program, and tool failure protocol.
- Execute geological operations and communicate with third‑party geo‑steerers, mud logging vendors, rig personnel, and drilling personnel; integrate geological and geophysical data; support correlation of drilling events with subsurface anomalies/features.
- Assess drilling and completions performance by integrating geological, geophysical, geochemical, and geomechanical characterization to understand performance drivers and ensure repeatability of successful results.
- Collaborate with Subsurface Technology, Land, Reservoir, Drilling, Completions, Regulatory, Facilities, Finance, Legal, and other disciplines for program planning and delivery in compliance with business rules.
- Communicate key findings and recommendations clearly; partner with reservoir, drilling, completions, and finance teams to identify opportunities that maximize net present value and improve capital efficiency.
- Integrate production, completion, surveillance, and geological datasets to identify performance drivers and improve future development design.
- Evaluate competitor drilling, completion, spacing, and production results to identify transferable learnings and emerging development opportunities.
- Master of Science in Geology or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years industry experience in unconventional reservoirs, preferably in the Eagle Ford.
- Hands‑on experience in operations, evaluation planning, well planning, detailed mapping, petrophysics, geophysics, and play assessment.
- Experience with integration of subsurface datasets to characterize play fairways and facilitate high grading of development opportunities.
- Knowledge of reservoir, drilling, and completions engineering.
- Familiarity with Petrel (preferred) and geo‑steering software such as Star Steer.
- Strong business acumen, data‑based decision making, and proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Commitment to health, safety, environment, and compliance principles.
- Demonstrated use of IMPACT principles:

- Eagle Ford experience (preferred but not required).
- Training or experience with data visualization software (Spotfire preferred).
- Experience with database web applications such as Enverus.
- Hands‑on experience with Claude, Python, Spotfire, Snowflake, or similar analytical tools and databases.
- Knowledge of CO2 utilisation and storage, core acquisition and analysis, cost‑conscious decision‑making, depositional framework, fluid properties, fluid sampling and analysis, geodesy and coordinate integrity, geohazard assessment, geomechanical analysis, integrated well delivery, reservoir geomechanics, and related competencies.
Base salary: $132,000–$155,000 (good faith estimate). Additional benefits:
