Data Center Mechanical Engineer
HDR is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of mission‑critical mechanical systems in Denver, Colorado. The successful candidate will manage project execution from conception through construction, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality, sustainable solutions.
Responsibilities- Mentoring/Managing
- Help grow a team that works together to create a collaborative environment that promotes career growth, high‑quality construction documents, client satisfaction, and a safety net for each other.
- Coordinate the work of Mechanical Engineers, EITs, and BIM Specialists with the balance of a multidisciplinary team throughout the entire project's development.
- Mentor, organize, and facilitate the growth of junior staff.
- Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule.
- Technical
- Assume a substantial role in mechanical design for data center/mission‑critical projects.
- Work with clients to understand their project‑specific requirements around reliability, growth increments, first cost versus life‑cycle costs, sustainability, construction schedules, and future flexibility.
- Provide detailed design and coordinate with multidisciplinary team members.
- Attend design meetings with other team members and lead mechanical discussions.
- Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect, and other disciplines.
- Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
- Support construction through field observations, submittal & shop drawing review, and RFI support.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Travel:
Some travel to job sites or other HDR offices may be required.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) recognized by the licensing board for the position location.
- Previous experience in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings.
- Experience in commercial or institutional facilities.
- Computer experience using MS Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, manufacturer selection software.
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
- Professional attitude and commitment to being an active participant of HDR's employee‑owned culture.
- Minimum of 5 years of consulting engineering experience in high‑reliability mechanical systems.
- Data Center/Mission‑Critical experience at an architectural/engineering or consulting firm.
- Strong desire to stay current with the trends of the fast‑paced mission‑critical industry.
- Knowledge of Uptime Topology standards, ASHRAE TC 9.9, ASHRAE 90.4, ISO standards regarding PUE, CUE, and WUE.
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu, AFT Fathom (or similar piping analysis software), HVAC loads program (e.g., IESVE), Microsoft Office suite.
- General knowledge of inputs required for CFD modeling.
- Experience with Newforma Project Center and/or Project Wise Document Management Software.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strongly motivated, professional initiative, client‑focused.
- Knowledge of current industry codes and standards.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills for multiple projects.
- Technical and specification writing skills.
- NCEES Registration.
- Preference to local candidates.
- Active participation in industry organizations encouraged.
- Participation in professional development seminars, courses, workshops, or conferences approved in advance.
- Additional industry certifications encouraged (e.g., Uptime ATD).
- Maintain continuing education requirements for any certification or license.

Compensation for this position is $88,550.00 – $ (Colorado). Temporary and part‑time roles may be eligible for limited benefits.
